3 Essays about nuclear weapons ***************************************************************** 3-G No.2 Mayo Asakawa I think the world would be a safer place without nuclear weapons, because nuclear weapons are tools used to kill people, and that is the main action in war. I think that if weapons had never exised in the world, then wars would not have existed . Why where nuclear weapons made? Maybe a leading figure wanted to lead the world or just be leader of his country. For example, the World War II, the Cold War etc. Each county wanted to beat the other country in the case of a war, so nuclear weapons were made. However, I think that nuclear weapons ended The Cold War. There are only some countries in the world who have nuclear weapons (The Nuclear Club) when others do not. I think that having the nuclear weapons is mistaken thinking. I don't know why people want to have them. But, maybe I think that having nuclear weapons is dangerous. However, only some countries having then is very dangerous for those who do not. I think having nuclear weapons is a bad thing, do we not say Peace in the world? If it fifty years ago since the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. A lot of people were killed and a lot are still suffering. On August 6 and 9, 1945 many peoples lives were destroyed, the people who did survive aren't lucky as they are still surffering. I believe that all people are created equal, so I can't understand why others have who prove they are better. I think that countries need to work with each other not against. Last fall France corvied out a plan of nuclear tests. This surprised most people in the world. I don't know what President Chirac thinks. When the people of Japan heard this news a counter movement took place. I hope that a lot of people in the world are sending letters to President Chirac, and a lot of people oppose Nuclear testing so why does President Chirac allow it. Nuclear testing is very sad and cruel matter. I hope that nuclear weapons are never used on our beautiful world, and people are never thought them forever. ------------------------------------------------------- About atomic bombs and nuclear weapons Misa Kawauchi In the world, many countries have nuclear wepons. The atomic age started about 50 years ago. Sixth August in 1945, an atomic bomb was dorroped on the city of Hiroshima. Since then, a bomb surviving victums of Hiroshima and Nagasaki have strongly opposed nuclear weapons. We know how terrible a nuclear war is but we can't try that acutualy a nuclear weapon will used at the war. In spite of this is ovious that a newclear war will destroy this world, nobody is surprise at this. Now it is a form of thinking in our daily life. Having a nuclear weapons is believed to be a determent against war. We have to learn about a nuclear weapons again. Hiroshima and Nagasaki were greaty damaged by a nuclear bomb, so Japanese people know how wret- ched nuclear weapons are. I don't know why various countries have nuclear weapons. Maybe, these countries need them to defend their country. Even so, we should not have nuclear weapons any more. Now, many countries have concluded a nonproliferation treaty, then in 1957 IAEA was formed. It is necessary for us to think about nuclear war our heart. When I imagined a third world war break out, I feel terrible. It is very important for people all over the world to keep peace and justice. We have to accept each other. When I went to Hiroshima, I could learn about the atomic bomb and the tragedy of great many people there. I was very shocked when I saw some pictures of atomic bomb victims. I understood that atomic energy has heavy power beyond my imagination. The atomic bomb is only used to destroy world peace. I think a lot of people who live on earth don't comprehend the fear of it. It destroys not only human body also our mental aspect. Actually, it happened about 50 years ago. We must not forget it, and we need to feel that something of victim's pain. How long can we have a peacefull life after? Japan has many nuclear power plants, too. I think, people are very anxious every day who live near them. Recentry, I saw on TV that a boy and girl teenage's choir came to Japan at the invitation of a Japanese cameraman from Chernobyl. They suffered from an accident of the nuclear power plant. The caneraman has been to Chernobyl many times, and he has taken a lot of photos of the damage. In other cities in the area an order of exacuation was held back for three days so back their homes, because all of the city already was pollted. When I know it , I was very surprised and I couldn't believe it. If it ever happens in this country, what will become of us? Maybe, we will lose our house, our school, our lovery family and friends by the prolifeation. So now, we need to stop of nuclear weapons. It is very important that each person demands the elimination of atomic power and nuclear weapons. thank you. ------------------------------------------------------- Nuclear Weapons Ayumi Sakakibara Nuclear weapons, a sigle phrase, it is very frightfull stuff. Nuclear weapons don't only destroy buildings, but also the hearts of people. But it is very regrettable that it exists in this world, such stuff must not exist. France has been experimenting with it. Moveover, it was done in not in France. I think just what do people all over the world know about a nuclear weapons? If people understood that the existance of a nuclear weapons is a reality, they would have stopped France at all costs. But they could'nt. It still means that people don't understandthe horrors of war, the seriousness of war. As a person from a nation which was atom bombed. I think I must tell people about the terrible conditions, but even I have a sense of transience of a nuclear weapons which had been dropped on Hiroshima fifty years ago. Now there are eight countries which have nuclear weapons. And these countries carried out nuclear tests. March first in 1954, some crewmen were atom-bombed, and one of them was killed by a thermonuclear explosion in America. 82people were atom- bombed in Longelup island, 157people were atom-bombed in Utoruc island. A thermonuclear test on Bikini atoll was held from July first in 1946. 166island people were exiled from their island. Twenty years later in 1968, (it is ten years later than the thermnuclear tests finished in Bikini) an American commission for sobmited a report. It said, "If people live on the island, and continue to eat food from the island, the amount of radiation which is accumulated in people's body will be more than the maximum standard in America. April 1978, decision of no admittance to Bikini for fifty years was made. After all, the island became impossible to live by the atomic tests, innocent island and it's people had been influenced. Even if there is no war today, if one country has a nuclear weapon, it can't say there is real peace. Even though Japan is not allowed to have atomic weapons, if another country has nuclear weapons it means same. Nuclear weapon must not exist this world." People of all over the world must think seriously like that. And I wish that a period would come such that there are no wars, no weapons, and people all over the world would happy. ========================================================= RESPONSES: ======================================================= Date: Tue, 30 Apr 1996 13:10:33 -0400 (EDT) From: Linda Huang To: japan@mbhs.bergtraum.k12.ny.us Subject: 3 essays I have recently read 3 essays from 3 students. Their names are Mayo Asakawa, Misa Kawauchi, and Ayumi Sakakibara. I agree with them. Nuclear weapons are destructive things used only for war. Why were nuclear weapons created? Like Mayo said, maybe someone wanted to be the leader of his country. In her essay, Mayo thought that there would not be any wars if weapons were never created. Here is where we differ. I think that war will always be there even if there aren't any weapons. People will find other ways to fight wars. In Misa's essay, she stressed the effect of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima. We all learned about the dropping of the atomic bomb in History class. We may have felt sorry for them. But did we really understand how they felt? Did we fully comprehend their horror and pain? Only you can answer that. Ayumi talked about nuclear testings. In her ending statement, Ayumi wrote "I wish that a period would come such that there are no wars, no weapons, and people all over the world would be happy." We're getting off to a slow start, but we're getting there. ====================================================== Date: Tue, 30 Apr 1996 09:41:12 -0400 (EDT) From: Tati Diaz To: japan@mbhs.bergtraum.k12.ny.us Subject: 3 Essays The Essays that Mayo Asakawa, Misa Kawauchi & Ayumi Sakakibara wrote were good ones. They expressed concern for what the world and what will happen to it. Unfortunately, we don't have any say over what other countries are doing with their atomic weapons we can only hope that they are in the hand of men who know what they are doing. (not likely) As in the essays I also believe that the world will be a better place and might relieve some tension between countries if we destroy those weapons. but as is the nature of man, people will always find something to fight over, be it with guns or your fists. And of course it will be about something stupid. I think I'll sleep better knowing that all the a-bombs all over the world are dismantled, rather than have my life in someone elses hands. ====================================================== Date: Tue, 30 Apr 1996 09:45:18 -0400 (EDT) From: Katiria Ramirez To: japan@mbhs.bergtraum.k12.ny.us Subject: 3 essays Dear Students: I agree with your essays and I believe that it is terrible to have atomic bombs and nuclear weapons. If the world try to have peace, why do they have nuclear weapons or atomic bombs? I believe they're not showing that they want peace, but I believe that most coutries has it because most wars are diffcult to solve or to get over with. Many counties may not even want to have it, but knowing themselves they'll need it to get over with the wars because that is a faster way to kill their enemies. I wish that the whole world had peace with one other that way we did not have to come up with the idea about the nuclear weapon or the atomic bombs. ====================================================== Date: Tue, 30 Apr 1996 14:18:39 -0400 (EDT) From: Yu Fu Lei To: japan@mbhs.bergtraum.k12.ny.us Subject: 3 essays All three of the essays from Tom Nagata's class are exceptional and informative. I agree with Misa Asakawa, Misa Kawauchi, and Ayumi Sakakibara when they said that the world should get rid of nuclear weapons. I want a world where people don't have to worry about getting hit by nuclear weapons. Mayo Asakawa's essay, 3-G No. 2, indicated the date of the bombing of Japan by the U.S. I think it was a devastatiin and tragic act of the U.S. There had to be an alternative instead of this Holocaust-like murder. Misa Kawauchi's essay, About Atomic Bombs and Nuclear Weapons, spoke about the 1957 IAEA. The 1957 IAEA was another way to end the world's amount of nuclear weapons. Misa Kawauchi personally visited the scene of the fifty year-old bombing of Hiroshima. I agree with Misa that if everyone saw the expressions and descriptions of the dead victims then they would stop and think about the effects of using nuclear weapons. In Ayumi Sakakibara's essay, Nuclear Weapons, said that nuclear weapons not only destroy land and people but also the "hearts of people". I think Ayumi means that the lives of people will change dramatically. For instance a relative of a victim will be scarred for life with the feeling that his/her love one will never come back. Some people breathed the radiation of the atomic bomb and had children that looked abnormal and inhuman. They might be born with an eye or a heart outside the body. These defects will curse them or kill them. ====================================================== Date: Tue, 30 Apr 1996 14:21:20 -0400 (EDT) From: Vivian Jimenez To: japan@mbhs.bergtraum.k12.ny.us Subject: 3 Essay The 3 essays that I have just finished reading are very good and I agree with them 100% percent. In the essay written by Mayo Asakawa I agreed with the part that she says that the world would be a better place wihtout any nuclear weapon. The world would truly be a better place to live in if there were no weapons what so ever. If there are no weapons then there is no war, If there is no war then nobody dies and if nobody dies then the world would truly be a better place to live in. I also agree with Misa Kawauchi on the part that she states if third world war were to break out she would feel terrible. I would also feel fear because a family memeber of mine might lose there life for something he had nothing to do with. And last I agree with Ayumi Sakakibara with her essay in general. I feel that if the government says that they want to make the world a better place to live in, then why have weapons, why let this world get more destructive and worse everyday. And I truly wish that this world could have a fresh start to see if people would make the same mistake they made before they actually thought about the consequences. ====================================================== Date: Tue, 30 Apr 1996 14:23:12 -0400 (EDT) From: Joseph Peterson To: japan@mbhs.bergtraum.k12.ny.us Subject: 3 essays These essays showed a great deal of remorce and compassion to the world because of the threat of nuclear bombs. In the essays I found they all shared a common interest in nuclear bombing, as Agami Sakakibar said-"such stuff should not exist" but as Misa Kawarchi said-"we have to learn about nuclear weapons again". So they all know there bad for the world but necessary for societies peace control. Just like we hat rules, we need then to justify society. ====================================================== Date: Tue, 30 Apr 1996 14:24:07 -0400 (EDT) From: Desiree Ferreras To: japan@mbhs.bergtraum.k12.ny.us Subject: 3 essays I think all the essays written by Mayo Asakawa, Misa Kawauchi, and Ayumi Sakakibara were very good. I liked their opinions on the subject of nuclear weapons. I like the point Mayo Asakawa's essay called 3-G No.2 says about peace. I also like Misa Kawauchi's essay called "About atomic bombs and nuclear weapons" says that the people should demand the elimination of nuclear weapons. I agree with both of them. If we didn't have nuclear weapons the world might be a more peaceful place. But since nuclear weapons were invented we should try to stop the making of them. My favorite essay was Ayumi Sakakibara's essay entitled "Nuclear Weapons". Ayumi talks about people not understanding the damage an atomic bomb can do. Ayumi hasn't been through an atomic bomb dropping but lives in a country that has. So Ayumi knows the damage it can cause. Nuclear weapons is a big problem of many countries. If we didn't have nuclear weapons there would be peace between the nations, instead of just having countries threaten each other with their weapons. ====================================================== Date: Tue, 30 Apr 1996 14:56:48 -0400 (EDT) From: Elaine Hernandez To: japan@mbhs.bergtraum.k12.ny.us Subject: 3 Essays I agree with all 3 essay's on Atomic Bombs and Nuclear Weapon's By: Mayo Asakawa: 3-G No.2 Misa Kawauchi: Atomic Bombs and Nuclear Weapons Ayumi Sakakibara: Nuclear Weapons Atomic Bombs and Nuclear Weapons should not apart of any war cause all it does is make matter's worse and a worse place to live including there will be alot of hatred around the world. There will be no peace till the world comes to an end...besides people who you know, love or respect will be part of these deadly games and might never come back, so we should think about all sort's of Weapon's and Atomic Bombs from preventing that from happening... ====================================================== Date: Wed, 1 May 1996 09:17:19 -0400 (EDT) From: Miguel Morales To: japan@mbhs.bergtraum.k12.ny.us Mayo, Misa, Ayumi, all saided that they think we should have peace. I believe that we must do it as one unit or it we not work. I am peace maker in my school but, one mouth can't tell the world what to do. I think what these three students are doing is a start. People think that gun power makes one country stronger then another and if we don't stop shooting each other it will not STOP. ====================================================== Date: Wed, 1 May 1996 09:21:55 -0400 (EDT) From: Esteban DeJesus To: Japan@mbhs.bergtraum.k12.ny.us Subject: 3 essays (fwd) The three essays I read seemed to be written with true emotions. The three students who wrote these informitive essays know there history like most of us do but like one of them stated the only people who know the true power of an A-bomb are those who felt it's presents. But as we all know those people are all dead. I feel like most of the people in this world do. Which is that atomic as well as Nuclear weapons should be dismantled. ====================================================== Date: Wed, 1 May 1996 09:27:25 -0400 (EDT) From: Ashley B Barrett To: japan@mbhs.bergtraum.k12.ny.us Subject: 3 essays First of all I would like to say that I am really happy with the type of mind and heart that each individual has which was expressed in their essays. Basically I truly agree with everything you people have outputted on your essays and I say a job well done. Ayumi Sakakibara said that she did not want any more wars, weapons and people all over the world. I agree whole heartedly. As long as people in this world continue to have hate in the hearts and refuse to change thier hearts, their way of living and thinking, life is doomed. And that's where Misa Kawauchi comes in. Misa Kawauchi said that it is necessary for us to think about nuclear war in our hearts. I agree one hundred Percent. You see everything comes from the heart. All thought, imagination and actions comes directly from the heart. No I am not talking about your blood pumper in your body, but I am talking about your spiritual self. Now if people would take the time to think in the hearts about how horrible nuclear war is, and all that it will do is cause destruction to mankind and believe they would change and eliminate the nuclear weapons. If not then that goes to show that their hearts are really impure. They have no morals, no sense of what is right, filled with pride, greed, and bitterness and all that will just lead to destruction. Mayo Asakawa said that "I think that if weapons had never existed in the world, then wars would not have existed." I disagree. The reason is because as long as people's hearts are evil, war could not be avoided. There could be wars of words or they could kill each other with there own hands. They don't need weapons to kill, hurt or damage another human being. Words could damage another human being. Rape could damage another human being. Lying could damage or hurt another human being. Physical abuse could hurt, damage and kill another human being. That's why I say that weapons are not manditory for war. Done by Ashley Barrett. I believed all three of them have their comment. As they says nuclear weapons is a very powerful weapons, it kill thousand and thousand of people, and maker people suffer until now. As Mayo stated, neclear weapon are only made for war. If there was no neclear weapon on earth, the world should be peaceful. For the countries that carries neclear weapon will threaten others. I think that all these kind of powerful weapon should never be used ever again in war. ====================================================== Date: Wed, 1 May 1996 09:30:57 -0400 (EDT) From: Corrine Novak To: japan@mbhs.bergtraum.k12.ny.us Subject: Three essays I really enjoyed reading the essays that your students have written on the internet. Ayumi, Mayo, and Misa made many important points in all of their essays. I feel that statement is true because we have seen through the years that any kind of war never has good results. ====================================================== Date: Wed, 1 May 1996 09:33:50 -0400 (EDT) From: Lourdes Yasmin Cruz To: Japan@mbhs.bergtraum.k12.ny.us Subject: 3 essays I agree with Mayo Asakawa, Misa Kawauchi and Ayumi Sakakibara that "nuclear weapon must not exist in the world". Nuclear weapon is about death, destruction of our natural environment, and our planet earth. I like the sentence in the essay 3-G No.2 by Mayo Asakawa that said "Countries need to work with each other not against". But they don't understand, they just want to have more power than others. We are so materialists. Misa Kawauchi, I think the same way as you do that "Atomic bomb is only used to destroy world peace". I don't understand why some people want to use it. Ayumi Sakakibara I liked your essay. I wish the same thing as you do "a period would come such that there are no wars, no weapons, and people all over the world would be happy. It's very sad that we don't know if that period would come someday. We must have hope!! Congratulations for all of you that wish peace all over the world. Each day less people are worry about this kind of problems. All of you are doing a very good job. I agree with Mayo, that we shouldn't have nuclear weapons. But what I don't agree with is when Mayo said that if weapons did not exist, wars would not exist. I think that if weapons didn't exist people would find other ways to have a war. A war is any active hostlity, struggle or conflict between people or countries. If weapons did not exist people would fight with their own bear hands. My opinion on what we should do is talk about how we can stop any kind of war, either nuclear, or hand fighting? How can we stop countries from fighting, or from offending each other and get them to get along. As you said "our world is beautiful so we should try not to used nuclear weapons or any other types of weapons, which would destroy our beautiful world. I am also sorry that people are still suffering about the dropping of the atomic bomb. Misa Kawauchi, I agree with you that everyone in this world should keep peace and justice and that we should all accept each other. Misa you are right when you said that we must not forget, and we need to feel some of the victims pain of what happened because of the nuclear bomb. As Ayumi Sakakibara said in her essay "Even if there is no war today, if one country has a nuclear weapon, nobody can say there is really no peace." I agree with Ayumi when I say "Nuclear weapons must not exist." I think all three of you, bring up good points. I also think that we the young children of this world will make this world more peaceful and have more unity as time goes by. We will all try not to have wars, no weapons, and be more united. ====================================================== Date: Wed, 1 May 1996 09:35:00 -0400 (EDT) From: Vanessa Gonzalez To: japan@mbhs.bergtraum.k12.ny.us Subject: 3 essays The three essays written by Mayo Asakawa, Misa Kawauchi, and Ayumi Sakakibara were very emotional essays. I agree with what they were saying 100%. When Mayo says that the world will be a better place without nuclear weapons, she was correct. However, the countries that have the weapons are not willing to part with them. We can't control what other countries do with their weapons. It is a very good thing what these students have done. It's a start. Hopefully there will be a day when there will be no wars. Nuclear weapons do contribute to war but if everyone would put their differences aside, we would all live in peace. Maybe in the future, our children wont have to live in a world of such violence. ====================================================== Date: Wed, 1 May 1996 09:38:45 -0400 (EDT) From: Derek Lee To: japan@mbhs.bergtraum.k12.ny.us Subject: 3 essay I disagree what they said of the essays, President Truman demanded to drop the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki was because he wanted to stop the World War II. If Japan didn't invade the Pearl Harbor first, then United States would not intervent the World War II and would not drop the atomic bomb. Although, the atomic bomb killed a lot of Japanese, but remember, when Japan was invaded China, they also killed a massive of Chinese people. The amount of Chinese dead in the war is more than the Japanese dead under the atomic bomb. And also those Chinese died in the war were more cruel and painful than those Japanese died under the atomic bomb. Japanese army used a lot of deifferent cruel ways to kill Chinese without humanity. Therefore, without the atomic bomb, people still can invade other countries, and kill massive of people. In my opinion, I think existing of weapons is necessary. Although, existing of weapons is dangerous in the world, but it is based on how you using them. You can use them to invade other countries and killing people, but also you can use them to defend and protect your country and yourself. ====================================================== Date: Wed, 1 May 1996 09:40:49 -0400 (EDT) From: Jeanette Lu To: japan@mbhs.bergtraum.k12.ny.us Subject: Three Essays I have read the essays on nuclear weapons written by Mayo Asakawa, Misa Kawauchi, Ayuni Sakakibara. These Japanese students all agaisnt the existance of nuclear weapons. They all thought the world will become safer if we did not have these weapons. They said the world should destroyed these weapons. Then the world peace could be preserved. I agree that the world will be a lot safer if the nuclear weapons were eliminated. However, I do not believe that the world peace could be maintained after that. The technology is improving every day. Once who destroyed the nuclear weapons, a more powerful and more destructive weapons can be invented later. So, what is the meaning of destroying these weapons. In addition, if people like fighting, they could still begin the fire with any machine weapons. Don't forget all human being have hands and legs, they can still use these natural weapons which they had done so in the ancient time. So, I think the elimination of weapons is an important point since weapon itself can not create a fight. The major thing is how people think. ====================================================== Date: Wed, 1 May 1996 09:41:17 -0400 (EDT) From: Henry Wan To: Japan@mbhs.bergtraum.k12.ny.us Subject: 3 Essays I read Mayo, Misa, Ayumi's essay, I think they are right and serious about the disasterous nuclear weapons. Asakawa also mentioned about the atomic bomb that dropped on the Japanese cities during a war. It did killed a lot of people, but if the U.s. didn't drop the atomic bomb on those cities to end the war, more people might die from the war. Another student, Misa Kawauchi, said that atomic bomb is only used to destroy world peace. I disagree with it because it could also help to end a war. They talk about the danger's, and their fear's of nuclear weapons. These essays show a lot of opinions. Mayo Asakawa, said "nuclear weapons are tools used to kill people". I agree with this person because nuclear weapons are forms of destruction. I also agree with this person because look what it did to Hiroshima, and Nagasaki. The person said"France is doing nuclear testing". This is wrong, people should do something about this. Nuclear weapon should have never been made. In the essay that Misa Kawauchi wrote, she talks about the power of nuclear weapons. She said "if a nuclear war happens that would be the end of a world". I agree because if we have nuclear weapon shooting at each other, the would be no one left. The atomic weapons are ten times as stronger then it was fifty years ago. In the last essay by Ayumi Sakakiban, talks about the past. This person talks about the people who died in many accidents with nuclear weapons. This was sad to here. I don't know why they make these kinds of bombs. In conclusion I think atomic weapons are the most dangerous weapons in the world. They kill so many people, but yet they continue to make them. They should make a law about making nuclear weapons. ====================================================== Date: Wed, 1 May 1996 14:00:58 -0400 (EDT) From: Alan Gomez To: Japan@mbhs.bergtraum.k12.ny.us I personally agree with Mayo Asakaua, but I think back in those days their was no other way of settleing differences. I'm not saying it was good to kill people but they might not have thought of way's to settle their differences, as we can try to today. I bet that if they found another way of settleing their differences they would have never been war to begin with, because they started with war, and saw that it had an effect of making the decision, but if they would have started out talking out their differences they probably would be talking out their differences till this day. I think that we would probably have our population doubled or even tripled if war never occured. I also think that children, teenagers etc. would learn something else in there Social Studies, or History classes, then about war. they would probably be learning about talking out there differences when someone has a problem. ====================================================== Date: Wed, 1 May 1996 14:00:47 -0400 (EDT) From: Susan Leung To: japan@mbhs.bergtraum.k12.ny.us Subject: 3 essays In the three essays written by Japanese students, the bombing in Hiroshima and Nagaski 50 years ago still affects many Japanese now. The atomic bombing in Japan has greatly effected the Japanese feelings towards nuclear weapons. As stated in Misa Kawauchi's essay called "About Atomic Bombs and Nuclear Weapons", because of the atomic bomb many japanese strongly oppose nuclear weapons. In Mayo Asakawa's essay called "3-g No.2" she believes that if nuclear weapons didn't exist then wars wouldn't exist. I disagree with this statement. Whether weapons exist or not I feel there is always a chance of war. With or without weapons people still fight. People find one way or other to hurt each other. Nuclear weapons is a scary thought to people. In Ayumi Sakakibara's essay called "Nuclear Weapons", nuclear weapons is a frightful word. It destroys any hope of peace. Weapons kill people and nuclear weapons make the situation worse. Countries feel nuclear weapons make them safer from getting into wars but it only causes more wars. What people need now is a sense of safty and peace in this war. I can't and don't want to imagine what would happen if a third world war occurs. ====================================================== Date: Wed, 1 May 1996 14:08:01 -0400 (EDT) From: Christina Ding To: japan@mbhs.bergtraum.k12.ny.us Subject: 3 essays Think about how the world would be a safer place, without nuclear weapons, because nuclear weapons are tools used to kill people, and that is the main action in war. This is what Mayo Asakawa said in her essay. I agree with her opinion but I do not agree when she says " If weapons had never existed then their would not have been wars." I do not agree because people usually tend to fight with each other. Some people even want power. So even if nuclear weapons were never made wars would have happened. In Misa Kawauchi essay she says that she doesn't understand why various countries have muclear weapons. She says " Maybe, these countries need them to defend their countries". To me I think that it gives the countries a sense of power. I mean I agree that it would be great if their were no nuclear weapons. But if you were in a war and you wanted to end it very quickly or if you had no other choice, then it is good that a country has nuclear weapons. In Agumi Sakakibara essay she says that Japan is not allowed to have atomic weapons, but if another country has nuclear weapons it means the same. I don't agree becasue Japan cause this themselves. I mean who told Japan to go to war with the U.S. if they didn't they would not have lost the use of nuclear weapons. In my opinion their is a good and bad use for nuclear weapons. It would be great if the world were in peace and that their are no nuclear weapons. But that will never happen. ====================================================== Date: Wed, 1 May 1996 14:10:59 -0400 (EDT) From: Jenny Mei To: Japan@mbhs.bergtraum.k12.ny.us Subject: Nuclear Weapons The use of nuclear weapons is a serious problem since the use of the atomic-bombing in Hiroshima, Japan by the United States in August, 6 1945. The severity of the explosion of the bomb had damaged Hiroshima totally. Thousands of Japanese died. In the essays on nuclear weapons written by Mayo Asakawa, Misa Kawauchi, and Asyumi Sakakibara, this bombing was mentioned. Eventhough atomic weapons increase the tention and the acceleration of violence among countries, many countries are longing to test atomic bombs, for example, France. " I wish that a period would come such that there is no wars, no weapons, and people all over the world would happy." This passage was taken from Asyumi Sakakibara's essay on muclear weapon. I beleive everyone in teh world have the same wish. In Misa Kawauchi's essay, Misa wrote:" The atomic bomb is only used to destroy world peace... It destroys not only human body also our mental aspect... We need to feel teh pain of the victims." I agree with Misa. Many victims who survived after an explosion of atomic bomb get cancer or thir boies are going to decay because of the release of radiation when the atomic bomb exploded. Survivers after the bombing suffer and grieve because of the loss of their relatives, parents, friends, and children. Like what Mayo Askawa wrote in his/her essay:" The atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima and Nagsaki fifty years ago. A lot of people were killed and a lot are still suffering. On August 6 and 9, 1945 many people's lives were destroyed, the people who did survive aren't lucky as they are still suffering." Nuclear weapons are very dangerous. I think in such a collaborative world nuclear weapons are not necessary to solve a conflic. ====================================================== Date: Wed, 1 May 1996 14:18:43 -0400 (EDT) From: Almina Ahmed To: japan@mbhs.bergtraum.k12.ny.us Subject: 3 essay I think that nuclear weapons are great. You may agree or disagree with me. I don't care. The reasons for my opinions are my own. If you don't like what you are reading then stop right here and go no further. The presence of nuclear weapons gives a country a sense of power, and protection. As Mayo Asakawa mentioned in her essay, 3G-No.2, the threat of nuclear weapons were involved in WWII and the Cold War. What would've happened if we didn't have nuclear weapons? The USSR would have blown us out of the world. No doubt about it. The presence of nuclear bombs enabled us to survive the threat posed by the USSR. This was a situation of kill or be killed. I feel that Mayo is also wrong in saying if weapons didn't exist there would be no violence. Even if there weren't any weapons there would still be violence. How? We all have differences and these differences lead to conflicts and in some cases acts of violence. Others get a thrill off of random acts of violence. The presence of weapons in a way seems to give us a sense of power and protection. Another point brought to mind is, how could we have avoided becoming a communist country if it were not for nuclear weapons? If we didn't have nuclear weapons then we would be living in a communist nation not a democratic one. Think about it. Nuclear weapons saved us from communist control. I agree with a point made by Misa Kawauchi in the essay about, atomic bombs and nuclear weapons, that nuclear weapons do cause much destruction. In today's world it's survival of the fittest. Ayumi Sakaki wrote in the essay, Nuclear Weapons that the amount of radiation in people's body will be more thatn the maximum standard in America. Don't we get radiation from other things around us. We can get radiation from microwaves, computers, and television. Some of us are around these things all day. So, what's the difference? We all have to die some time, right? ====================================================== Date: Wed, 1 May 1996 14:31:09 -0400 (EDT) From: Edward Ip To: japan@mbhs.bergtraum.k12.ny.us Subject: L@@K: 3essay After I read all three essays at "http://mbhs.bergtraum.k12.ny.us/cybereng/japan/essay.txt" I personally agree with Mayo that the world would be a safer place w/o nuclear weapons. But that doesn't mean it's a safe place. There was one thing that I didn't agree with Mayo was that " I think that if weapons had never exised in the world, then wars would not have existed", I think that even if there are no weapon exists in the world people will still have wars, as long as people are eager to want more and to have more than they do. Every one wants more power, wealth, and land. People never think that they have enough. And I think that's what cause war. Not weapon, it's people's eager that causes the war. Sometimes I think that we are killing ourself just by testing nuclear weapon. The accident in nuclear testings don't just cause death. It causes permanent(or at least for many many years) environmental damage. I think that nuclear weapons are affecting the world's environment right now. Earth is a very very small place, and while all those intensive nuclear weapon tests are going on, it effects the global temperature. Just imagine lighting up a firecracker in a small room with no windows, do you think it will effect the environment? Earth is just like that small room. Why are people trying to find ways to kill? I think it not just nuclear weapons that are causing damages to the environment. Also the nuclear power plant are VERY dangerous to the environment. It's dangerous to run the plant, it's dangerous to get rid and store the nuclear active waste. Imagine if those material went into the hands of terrorists? Nuclear power elimiated many energy problems, but people always forget that it also causes problems in the environment and the danger of it. There are many many alternative we can use to generate electricity. We can use water power, solar power, there are so many other ways we can use that are alot safer to the environment and a lot less side effects. I think that there should be an end to all nuclear usage, either weapon or nuclear power plant. IT JUST NOT WORTH THE RISK. People think that we have technology that's high enough to controll anything that may happen in a power plant, if we did know that much. Why would there be nuclear contaminations and why are we having problem store all the nuclear radio-active waste? Are we really as intelligent as we think we are? ====================================================== Date: Wed, 1 May 1996 15:00:37 -0400 (EDT) From: Nilda Bonilla To: japan@mbhs.bergtraum.k12.ny.us Subject: 3 eassy The three easssy that were written by Ayumi, Mayo, Misa were very inspiring, and emotional because What had happan in there country. It can use the nulear weapons to threaten all countries to listen to him. Now, there is other countries have nuclear weapons. It will keep the balance of power of each country then they won't fight each other, because they know what is going to happen in the war. One thing I worry at is those countries have nulear weapons and they don't have enought security prevent the weapons from stole and accident. In August, sixth 1945, U.S. dropped two atomic bombs in the city of Hiroshima and Nagasaki of Japan. This was the first to using atomic bombs in the war, and it also the only time to use atomic bomb. The reason for President Truman demanded to drop the bombs was he try to end the war. If he didn't use the atomic bomb then the WWII won't end. So, can you imagine what's going to happen to those country's people. That is way the Cold War ended, not because of the nuclear weapons they both had. Misa Kauauchi said "..Hiroshima and Nagasaki have strongly opposed nuclear weapons..." My thoughts is that they do not opposed for them to have nuclear weapons but for other places not to have nuclear weapons because they do not want the same think happen to them again. But if they had the chance to use a nuclear weapon they would use it on the US to pay them back. Aumi Sakakibara said "...Nuclear Weapon does not only destory building but people heart.." It had given a lot of fact and opinions. I like the three essays very much. I agree on almost all of it. Nuclear weapons is a deadly weapon that it shouldn't have existed in this world. Because of nuclear weapon, family and friends are afraid of place that have nuclear testing. I don't believe how people will be so cruelty to be able to use the nuclear weapon to destroy the beautiful lands and innocent people who didn't do anything wrong. Nuclear weapons doesn't mean "powerful". It means "lives will be killed." In the essay by Mayo Asakawa, "countries wanted to beat each other by using nuclear weapon." I agree, through our history class, we knew that almost every war in the history, nuclear weapon are used. Countries wanted to be powerful and better by using nuclear weapon destroyed the other countries. I believe all people are created equal. Everyone are same. Countries need to make peace and gathering together helping each other.(not destroy each other) We are a family of the Earth. We are brother and sister. We need to love, caring and helping each other. This is what make up a happy family. In the essay by Misa Kawauchi, "If it ever happens in this country, what will become of us? Maybe, we will lose our house, our school, our loving family and friends by the prolifeation. So, We need to stop of Nuclear weapon." I agree, I had watch World War 1 and World War 2's movie. When I look a the family being separated and killed, I felt very sad about it. I don't understand why people wanted to make and use the nuclear weapon. Just watch the movie, hear the crying sound of the babies and the loud sound of bomb and guns. See the thousands died body laying on the ground. Smell the deadly air. People feeling scared, no water to drink, It is a terrible world. I wish everybody could image what it is like. In the essay by Ayumi Sakakibara "Nuclear weapons, a single phrase, it is very frightfull stuff." I agree, I was just a single weapon that could put a hole in the Earth. It destroyed people's life. It killed millions of people. It really is a frigtfull. I just can't believe that a small weapon could do so much damaged. I wish nobody will use it. In my opinion, I think nuclear weapon is a deadly weapon. It is a weapon that shouldn't be made in this world. If countries are using it, the world will collapse into dust and no life will ever existed. I know it is difficult to ask for, but please tried to understand. For example the essay that Misa Kawauchi wrote said that nuclear war will destroy the world- countries need nuclear weapons to defend their nations, I agree 100% with you, but I don't believe that people should eliminate all nuclear arms. 3-G No.2 by Mayo Asakaw was another essay. This individual mentioned that the world be a safer place without nuclear weapons (I agree)-if nuclear weapons never existed, then war would never exist (I disagree)-Why was nuclear weapons ever made? maybe for the reason that a leading figure wanted to lead the war or just be a leader of his country (I agree)-Hope that nuclear weapons arenever used on our world. Last essay I read was from Ayumi Sakakibara whick was similar to the others. I do agree with many of the their points, but I also disagree in a couple. I agree When Misa said nuclear weapons will destroy the world, that countries need them to defend their own countries. I somehow in a wierd way, no mean to offend anybody, I believe that there was some good when the US dropped those two A-bombs on the two cities of Japan. Its not the fact that Japan surrendered after the explosion, but the fact that people found out what a nuclear bomb will do a populated area...I see also as a lesson to the world. I say this because at that time when the bomb was dropped the technology was not so advanced as today's. What about if we never dropped it nobody will ever find out the consequences. What about if right now the US or any of those nations with nuclear arms capacity are involve in a war and decided to drop a nuclear bomb the consequences will be far beyond worse than the one in Japan, due to the technology we have today. Now because of the dropping of the atomic bomb we now know to have better control of nuclear weapons. By the way there will still be war between different nations even without nuclear weapons ====================================================== Date: Thu, 2 May 1996 14:12:57 -0400 (EDT) From: Christie Ling To: japan@mbhs.bergtraum.k12.ny.us Subject: L@@K 3 ESSAYS Hi!! Here is my response to the three essays. Please feel free to email me if you have any questions. In the reading of the three Japanese students' opinions on nuclear weapon, I found it to be very very impressive. I personally agree with Mayo Asakawa, there is a phrase that I have been impressed with " The world would be a safer place without nuclear weapons ". In my opinion, if we wanted to end the nuclear war, we first have to find the oringinal cause of producing nuclear weapon. I think the world would be a paradise if there is no desire in peoples' mind. As time goes along, human technology will increase, people will invent more and more new tech that we haven't thought about it, how come there are so many wars going on the world? Let me tell you the reason, the leaders on the world all got very big interests of taking over the whole world, wars were started because of their desires. People produce nuclear weapon in order to win the war, it is not the existince of the nuclear war that destroys the world, it is the desires that makes people to ruin their family. In my opinion the first thing that we need to work out is that countries need to work with each other, they should believe that the whole world is a family, peace treaty and other compromises shall be made in order to obtain peace. If there is no war, there will be no use for the nuclear weapons, then the problem is solved!! My opinion is not easy to accomplish, it really needs the cooperations throughout the whole world, I hope time can change everything including peoples' minds, this is my wish " PEACE ON EARTH "!!!! ======================================================== Date: Fri, 3 May 1996 09:12:34 -0400 (EDT) From: Esteban DeJesus To: japan@mbhs.bergtraum.k12.ny.us Subject: three essays I found that mayo Asakawa, misa kawauchi and Ayui Sakakibara all let out some emotion in there writing. I definitely agree with what Misa Kawauchi say, "coun- tries need them[nuclear weapons] to defend their country." if United States didn't have nuclear weapons during World War II I don't think the war would have ended. Again this is my opinion. I really don't know if WWII would have ended if United States didn't dropped the A-bomb on Japan. In another essay by Mayo Asakawa, she say "that if weapons had never existed in the world, them wars would not have existed." I kind disagree with it because weapons is not the source of the war. But greed, money, and land is the cause of the war. As long as people continue to want more lands and money, war will still exist. I think United States will play an important role in the future of stopping nuclear weapons being built in nations like North Korea and Iraq. In order to prevent an nuclear war in the future, I think all nations should come together and agree on th stopping of nuclear weapons in the world. ================================================== Date: Fri, 3 May 1996 09:29:16 -0400 (EDT) From: David A Benito To: japan@mbhs.bergtraum.k12.ny.us Subject: Re: 3 essays (fwd) TO Mayo Asawakawa,Misa Kawauchi, and Ayumi Sakakibara. That is why it was called the cold war, Because there was no fighting. You could call it a war of words. The only other time that there was a need to use Nuclear weapons was during the Cuban missile crissis. I do agree that nuclear weapons such as the atomic bomb should never be used again. They are to powerful for any one to have controll of. If you think about it. One country fires there nuclear weapon at the other. Then the other country fires their weapon. This is what you call the threat of nuclear war. Which to this day and age still exists. From what I have read and learned nuclear war wipes out every thing. Two wrongs do not make a right and there is never a good enough reason to kill innocent people because of the beliefs of their government. =================================================== Date: Mon, 6 May 1996 14:18:46 -0400 (EDT) From: Janis Zheng To: japan@mbhs.bergtraum.k12.ny.us Subject: 3 essays Nuclear weapons are the most destructive weapons that mankind had created. Believe it or not it exist in our very own country. We have it because to keep our security. That is what the government say about them. But after I read the three essays of three Japanese students, it made me realize how dangerous nuclear weapons can be. In the first essay '3-G No.2' written by Mayo Asakawa said,"Nuclear weapons should never exist...and it could be a much safer place without it." I agree with Mayo because it is true that when America dropped the atomic bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki during the second world war killed many thousands of Japanese people. Most of them were weak and unarmed citizens. This citizens did nothing wrong and died when the atomic bomb was dropped. Many who survived the bomb suffered from servere nuclear radiation and soon later died in pain. That's the worst thing that could happen to people. In the second essay 'About Atomic Bombs and Nuclear Weapons' by Misa Kawauchi said that "nuclear weapons not only destroyed human body but also our mental aspect." What Misa said was absolutely correct. Once we catch the nuclear radiation inside our body it started to eat out the body piece by piece until it totally destroy our body and causing a lot of pain and also mess up the mental capacity. We need to outlawed these nuclear weapons. In the third essay 'Nuclear Weapons' by Ayumi Sakakibara told us the these destructive weapons were used at war and to protect the security of their country and to defend it. I said that it's because of the creation to nuclear energy which had bring more problem to our world. Some countries were using these weapons to gain their world power. These were wrong doing. It must be stop. The three essays that I read were pretty good in express- ing their feelings about these nuclear powers going on right now. But they only see from their view of being one of the countries being bombed but not too much from other's point of view. I believed that nuclear weapons were some what led to more and more problem between countries. They are destruc- tive and very vulnerable if it gets to the hands of some crazy maniac. If non of these weapons exists, we could live in a much safer world than we are in now. If we cannot stop it from existing we must do everything to contrl the use of nuclear weapons. Let made this world in peace. =================================================== *END*
