A Volscian maiden, a virgin huntress and warrior, dear to the
goddess Diana. She was so light of foot that she scarcely bent
the stalks as she hurried over the fields of grain and she
skimmed dry-foot over the surface of the water. She was killed
in battle by the Etruscan Arruns - who was himself soon
thereafter dispatched by the arrows of the sorrowing goddess.
Most notable incident in her life was her being fastened to a
spear by her father, Metabus, and thrown across the Amisenus
river, in order to escape their pursuing enemies.
