Lewis Carroll, or to give him his real name, Charles Lutwidge Dodgson
(1832- 1898), is best remembered for his two Alice books, Alice's
Adventures in
Wonderland (1865) and Through the Looking-Glass (1871). Many people
do not
know that he was a mathematician by profession. He studied at Christ
Church,
Oxford, and after obtaining a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Mathematics,
he
remained at Christ Church as Mathematical Lecturer for the 47 years
until  his death.
