| 16 - How I will be part of the Change I believe in? |
Add a link to a new file called: change.html in your index.html then start
this new file.
You will start this project by reading three different texts: a quote, an editorial, and a speech (which you can also listen to). All three are connected. As you read them, take notes and collect common thoughts and ideas from each. Let's Begin:
You're either part of the solution or you're part of the problem.
Read Friedman's editorial. Listen to and read Obama's address on Dec 6. Print Address. You are the next Generation. Consider the quote, Friedman's editorial, and Obama's address and then discuss how and what you plan on doing to be part of the solution and not to be part of the problem. Include the meaning of the quote and discuss how it is relevant to you. Provide direct response to what Friedman says. How does what he writes apply to you. (Hint it does apply to you). Reply to what Obama has said and how he is challenging you. Discuss in detail some of the points about what it means to be more "green." Be very very specific by using definite examples from the three readings. Be sure to explain how you react to specific parts of each of the three readings. We will be using these three as a foundation for further work. What events are happening now in the US and around the world that makes these three readings vital to our future? In your commentary (change.html) about the three readings, begin to develop a list of problems and solutions. Second steps will have you explore ways in which we can develop solutions. Second Step Repower America is a website that provides some detailed ideas about how we will solve some problems in the How do we do it? section. Read the four problems and solutions and discuss in detail, with specific examples about both the problem and solutions and how you, in your own way can be part of the solution. Follow the link to Al Gore's speech, too, to get more information about problems and solutions and your involvement. Consider what Obama is doing by his cabinet nominations. Why are these people good choices? What do they briong to the table to help solve our "green" problems? How might "going green" provide jobs and help improve the economy? See what a Bronx apartment building is doing to help itself. After you add these new ideas to what you have built in your change.html file, be ready to go to the next level (Step Three) as we will explore specific energies we can use to improve the economy and the environment. Third Step What are the alternative energies? Your research should focus on four points:
2. How has this type of energy been used elsewhere in the United States and/or around the world? 3. How much would it cost to provide this type of energy? What would the cost be to consumers? 4. What are the potential positive or negative effects on the environment? Use these Resources Discuss the alternative energies available as per the above criteria in your change.html document. Final Step: See how one young man is working to take the greening concept into urban neighborhoods in Greening the Ghetto Where will you be in five years? Ten years? |

How are we in control and not the machine? |
| 1 - How am I a Genius? |
Okay, so you know that you are a genius. Problem is not too many other
people know this. You have to show them you are a genius. You are lucky.
You can access a very interesting explanation with examples of how to
identify a genius. If you know how to identify a genius, you might be able
to identify the genius in you and then you can let us all know.
After you have read "Awakening Genius" two or three times, select one of the qualities to use to help explain how you are a genius. Provide two examples from your life that demonstrate this genius quality. Let one example be about any time when you were in school and one in your life outside school that shows this quality of genius was clearly reflective of you. Do this in word. Save as "iam." |
Essay: Write about what you hope to accomplish this semester. |
